What Is A Keto Diet?

ketogenic dietI have been practicing ketogenic or keto diet for a while now. I lost a lot of weight and my belly fat was totally gone. When meet friends not seen for some time, they often ask me how I lost my belly fat. I told them that it is due to the keto diet I am using. Question is often rising: what is a keto diet?

Keto diet is one of the most popular diet around the world. It is high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates (carbs) food. The diet teaches cells in the human body entering a state of metabolism referred to as ketosis.

What Is Ketosis?

In normal situation, the cells in the human body use glucose as their primary source of energy. The glucose is derived from dietary carbs, such sugar and starchy foods.

When there is not enough glucose available to meet energy demands, cells in the human body initiate alternative energy production pathways to create energy.

Fat is human body’s most concentrated source of energy. When the glucose is depleted, the stored fat in the form of triglycerides in adipose or fat tissue is broken into fatty acids or ketone bodies in the liver.

Ketone bodies have the following three major ingredients: acetone, acetoacetic acid (acetoacetate), and beta-hydroxybutyric acid (BHB).

The ketone bodies are easily transported into tissues outside the liver and converted into Acetyl-CoA, which enters the citric acid cycle and is oxidized in the mitochondria for energy.

Ketosis Is Associated With Ketoacidosis

Ketoacidosis is a pathological state of uncontrolled production of ketone bodies through ketosis, resulting in a metabolic acidosis. Ketoacidosis is most commonly caused by a deficiency of insulin in type 1 diabetes or late stage type 2 diabetes.

When lacking insulin, the glucose fail to enter cells and the body seeks alternative energy source, such as fat, and breaks down fat as fuel. The unregulated process produces a build up of ketones or acids. Ketoacidosis causes significant metabolic derangements and is a life-threatening medical emergency.

Ketoacidosis is distinct from physiologic ketosis. Keto diet is a physiologic ketosis and results in the normal regulation of ketone body production.

Keto Diet For Weight Loss

As mentioned above, keto diet teaches the cells in the human body entering into ketosis, uses the fat, instead of glucose, in the body as an energy source, and turns your body into a fat burning machine.

Keto diet dramatically elevates fat burning, which results in a much more stable flow of energy to all organs and tissues, especially the brain.

Cravings and hunger are dramatically reduced and people don’t need to eat frequent meals every few hours, which is the case for many on low-fat diets. Calorie restriction is therefore easier and weight loss happens with much less effort.

Reduction in appetite is a frequently noted effect of the keto diet. This could be because of the satiating effect of protein, despite its restriction to low-to-moderate levels, or something about the diet – possibly the ketones themselves – may increase appetite control level of ghrelin (the hunger hormone) and subjective appetite was lower when the human body was in ketosis.

Put all above factors together, keto diets are efficient weight loss tools.

Keto Diet For Type 2 Diabetes

Carb foods, such as bread, fruits, milk, pasta, and rice, are the main fuel source for human body. To create energy, insulin is required to bring glucose from blood into the cells.

In person with diabetes, insulin is not sufficient, which prevents the body’s capacity to use carbs effectively and results in high sugars in the blood. Therefore, high-carb meal in person with diabetes can lead to a spike in blood glucose.

Keto diet limits the intake of carbs and allows the body to maintain low but healthy level glucose, eliminate large spikes in blood sugar and reduce the need for insulin.

Keto diet thus has the potential of preventing diabetes and improve glycemic control in people with diabetes.

Besides weight loss and diabetes, keto diets are effective against a series of human diseases.

Keto Diet Strategy

It is no doubt that keto diet will bring a lot of benefits to your body and your health and is worthwhile for you to practice this health life style.

So you decide to give keto diet a try. Before you get into the keto diet, you need to have strategy on how to effectively transition from carb diet to keto diet and thus benefit most from your efforts.

  • Know why you start keto diet

Different people have different reason why starting keto diet. Some want to lose weight, some want to control or prevent diabetes, some want to enhance brain function, some want to benefit heart health, and some want to lead healthy longevity life.

Know the reason why you want to start keto diet is the first step for your keto diet journey.

  • Set up your keto diet goal

You know why you want to start keto diet. Your keto goal needs to be as specific as possible. For example, you want to reduce your weight 10 pounds in one month, you want to reduce your blood glucose to normal level without using insulin in one month, and you want to reach ketosis state in one week.

The goal setting is important since you need to have tools to measure your achievements. These tools need to be prepared and ready before you start your keto diet. You need to establish the baseline information on the parameters you are observing and monitoring.

  • Understand the keto diet

Have a deep understand the keto diet principles. The standard keto diet consists of 75% fat, 20% protein, and 5% carbs. The keto diet is to exhaust your body of its glucose energy source and transition your body to rely on ketones for fuel.

For most people, the diet structure needs dramatic changes. If you consume 600 g food daily, the keto diet suggests you to eat 450 g fat, 120 g protein, and 30 g carbs.

Most of us get used to high carb food and consume way high of carbs, for example, one apple contains 25 g carbs. The single apple is about to reach your daily carbs intake quote.

For the beginner, I suggest you purchase a food weight scale and measure the foods you use so that you know exactly how much food you consume.

  • Know you are in ketosis

You are practicing keto diet. Your goal is to reach ketosis and you need to know when you are in a state of ketosis, indicating that the fat is breakdown to ketone bodies, which contains the following three products: acetone, acetoacetate, and BHB.

Bad breath or breath with fruity smell indicates that acetone exits the body in your breath. While the bad breath may not be ideal for your social life, it is a positive sign that your body entering the ketosis.

Breath analyzers can also be used to monitor acetone in your breath.

Urine strips can be used to measure the presence of ketones in your urine.

The most reliable and accurate method of measuring ketosis is to measure your blood ketone levels using a specialized meter, such as Keto-Mojo, which measures BHB amount in the blood. Measuring BHB in your blood is the most accurate way of testing.

That being said, if you are following the guidelines of keto diet and stay consistent, you should be in some form of ketosis, you are losing weight and feeling healthier. You may not need to obsess over your ketone tests.

  • Keto diet is a lifestyle change

Using keto diet, your body may undergo dramatic change, physically and emotionally. It is not just short-term diet changes. It is a long-term, even life-long journey.

You are changing the way you shop, where you eat, when you eat, and much more.

  • Displace your diet gradually

Don’t try to replace your current food with keto food all in once.

You have your current food list and your keto diet list. Identify your favorite keto food, add your favorite keto food and remove avoided keto food from your diets gradually.

Optimize your keto meals and perfect your full keto diets so that you reach your pre-defined detogoal.

Commercial Keto Diets

The best keto diet practice is that you design your own meal plans, shop your own materials, and cook your own meals. By doing so, you know exactly what kind of foods you eat, what is your favorite foods, and where is the best place to get the high quality materials. You are going to monitor your keto diets actively, make it as hobby and enjoy the keto diet journey.

However, we are living in a busy world. Many of us have busy schedule. It is not possible for us to spend so much time preparing keto diets daily.

If this is the case, commercial keto diets are the solution. Keto diets are so popular and becoming billion dollar industrial. If you spend your time and look carefully, you will find something matching your keto diet needs.

Here are some services I am currently using. Kiss My Keto provides a personalized keto plan for you. You start by taking a keto quiz, provide your information, the food you like and don’t like.

Keto Supplement

It is scientifically proved that BHB is a powerful ketosis agent. BHB easily crosses the blood-brain barrier resulting in accessible energy to the brain and muscle tissues, becoming a source of energy after entering the mitochondria, being converted to Acetyl-CoA, and then ATP through the Krebs cycle. This ultimately results in many direct benefits, including:

  • Reducing feelings of hunger.
  • Improving mental performance.
  • Increasing physical performance.
  • Longer lasting energy.
  • Decreasing the amount of time it takes for your body to enter ketosis.
  • Helping reduce the “low-carb flu” symptoms

HBH is a perfect keto supplement or exogenous keto supplement. It is also called keto salts, keto base, keto weight loss pills, and keto fat burner pills.

It is the most powerful exogenous keto supplement, makes the perfect keto weight loss pills for igniting ketosis, burning fat, and maintaining energy on a low-carb diet.

This BHB keto supplement helps you enter ketosis and sustain powerful energy and avoid “keto-flu” symptoms on the keto fast. It helps you stay alert, focused, and energetic all day.

The BHB keto supplement burn your fat and reduce your weight, while maintaining your muscle, increasing your protein synthesis, and decreasing your appetite for carbs.

The keto exogenous supplement increases mental alertness by increasing brain ketone levels and normalizing blood sugar levels.

Therefore, if you want to enter ketosis, to lose weight, and to gain your health benefits, you may use keto supplements to obtain same effects as that of keto diets.

Conclusion

Keto diet is high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbs.

The goal of keto diet is to help your body entering ketosis, thus using fat, instead of glucose, as the energy source, leading to weight loss and improving overall health.

For most beginners, the information for keto diet is overwhelming. You need to take it easy, evaluate your current situation, and set up your keto diet goal.

With your goal in mind, you plan your keto diet accordingly. Please note that no one knows your body better than you do. You already know what food you like and what food make you feel good. It is not difficult for you to come out a perfect keto diets and reach your ultimate health goal.

Questions and Answers

Does eating fat make you fat?

Many people believe that eating fat will make you fat and contribute to being overweight or obese. It is wrong. Eating fat doesn’t make you fat.

To address this question, we need to understand the lipid metabolism. Fats ingested in the diet are digested in the small intestine. The triglycerides are broken down into monoglycerides and free fatty acids, then imported across the intestinal mucosa.

With keto diet, the glucose is low. Glucose is limited, the ketosis is turned on, fat is broken down into ketone bodies, which is then used to generate ATP.

In this scenario, it is a lipolysis process, which breaks down triglycerides into glycerol and fatty acids, making them easier for the body to process fat. It is unlikely that the ingested fat makes you fat.

When you use high carb food, the glucose is high and the body is going to use the glucose as fuel.

It is also likely that excess acetyl CoA generated from excess glucose, carbohydrate, and fat, can be used for fatty acid synthesis. This is a lipogenesis process, which makes you fat.

  1. I have been living a “Keto” lifestyle for awhile and can say it has made me feel much healthier. I know I have gone of my Keto diet I do not have as much energy and after my meals my stomach feels heavy and sick.

You should make sure you follow a Keto diet the right way so you do not do harm to your body. Your body has needs and you need to make sure it is getting what it needs to stay healthy.

Thank you for your knowledge and for your educational post.

    1. Thank you for sharing your personal experience with us. You are right when you are reaching the state of ketosis, you are full of energy and are stronger and healthier.

I agree with you that before you start your keto diet, make sure that you have the basic knowledge on keto diet and the best will be to have experienced personnel to give you some advice. Otherwise, you could also start with slow pace, adding keto diet gradually.

  2. Very cool thank you. I heard about ketosis when I was younger and I was reading the ultimate diet 2.0 by Lyle McDonald. He recommended going into ketosis to help burn body fat for bodybuilders trying to lose body fat ideally while maintaining muscle.

So do you think that ketosis is good for bodybuilders? What about me if I am trying to build muscle? Also is it possible for me to lift the same weight I do now if I go into ketosis?

I also wanted to compliment you on the interesting selection of links on the right hand side of your page. They were so interesting and I clicked on all of them and check them out.

I have to think about it a little but I will keep your page in mind if I want to try that supplement. Thank you for explaining things in a way that I could understand.

    1. It is so nice you have knowledge on the keto diet when you were young. The Ultimate Diet 2.0 represents both a old and new approach to the problems of dieting to low bodyfat and gain muscle. It is aimed at advanced dieters and athletes who want to move from ordinary to extraordinary. It will allow dieters to lose 1-1.5 lbs of fat per week with no muscle loss (some dieters gain muscle). It allows athletes to maintain or improve performance while losing bodyfat. It can also be used to gain muscle with minimal bodyfat gains.

Keto diet is good for bodybuilder since it contains enough protein to build your muscle. Depend on your needs, you may enhance protein intake. Ketosis generates more powerful energy than carb does, so it is easier for you to lift more weights.

As mentioned, I have been practicing keto diets for more than one year now. I lost weight and my belly fat was completely gone. I am full of energy and healthier than before. This is why I document my keto diet experience and share with as many people as possible. Please feel free to contact me if you have any question.

  3. Thank you for such an informative post on Ketosis. I have been following keto diet for a year now and I have to say that it was not easy in the beginning. I jumped into eating keto right away and it was too difficult for me in the beginning so I failed a couple of times until the 3rd time’s the charm. It is just like you said, I needed that ease into eating keto since I still have that crave for sugar. I find that when I really need to have some sugar, I turn to really cold seltzer and squeeze some fresh lime and that stopped me from my crave. It took me about 3 days for the craving to be gone. I also have to meal prep my koto meals, I do not trust the store or restaurant meals so I cook myself.

I find that not only did I lose a lot of fat, I also have a lot of energy and I do not crave sweets anymore. I think I can live a keto lifestyle now without having to struggle, the benefits trump the cravings 🙂 Thanks for all the product recommendations, I want to try the urine strip out. Cheers!

    1. Thank you for sharing your personal keto diet journey experience with us. You are right it is not easy to reach ketosis. You did it and congratulations!

I am also a carb-lover. This is hardest part for me. As described in this article, I order keto snack from the Keto Box even now. I use the keto snack as soon as I crave for sugar.

You are right that the best way to prepare keto diet is doing it yourself.

I love keto lifestyle. Right now I am always full of energy and my mind is always clear. I am a high performancer in all aspects of my life.

If you are a serious Keto dieter, you may want to measure your state of your ketosis, which will guide your application of your keto diet. Urine strip is a cheap way to measure your state of ketosis.

  4. Hi!

I have heard a lot about the Keto Diet, but I didn’t know much about it. I was even a bit skeptical about it. But now that I learned more about it and understand how ketosis works, maybe I could try it out and do more research about it. I had no idea about the ketone bodies and not even mention their ingridients.

I will read the other posts you suggested, starting with how to start a keto diet for beginners. Any tips for a beginner? And do you think the Keto Diet is for everyone?

    Best,

    Mariana

  5. Great and educative article on a Keto diet, the diet is high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbs, I love this write-up it opened me to this diet, and I learned a lot. The diet dramatically elevates fat burning, which results in a much more stable flow of energy to all organs and tissues, especially the brain. Insulin is required to bring glucose from the blood into the cells. Keto supplements help you enter ketosis and sustain powerful energy and avoid “keto-flu” symptoms on the keto fast, its a power giving food.

    1. Thanks for your comments. I am happy that you understand keto diet better through my article. Keto diet brings a lot of healthy benefits and is worthwhile for you to give a try.

  6. I have heard about the Keto-diet before, but I never started it, because I need the carbs for my thyroid. It is already working to slow and if I would cut out the carbs, it will slow down even more in after a while. I could do this for about 12 weeks, but surely not longer. It’s just not healthy for everyone sadly.

    1. Thanks for your reminder that not every one is suit for keto diet. As you mentioned, people with thyroid issues need to be careful if you plan to use keto diet, since the thyroid need to have carb rich food to be functioning.

  7. Thank you for the details you have shared here about what the keto diet is all about and exactly what makes the diet really hot in demand everywhere. I got into keto diet because I wanted to lose weight naturally and I was told that this diet plan actually aids it and I must say that my journey has been progressive and been showing a lot of positive results. I really like the keto diet plan.

  8. I enjoyed reading your article and I am a true believer in a Keto Diet for the right people and at the right time. You have provided lots of really good information and education that people can use to make the right food choices for themselves.

I also like the way you explained why fats are also good for you and not all bad.

My partner eats a Keto Diet regularly and it has mad a huge difference to his lifestyle. I am pleased that I now know why he sometimes has bad breath and needs to brush his teeth more regularly.

    Thank you so much.

  9. I am somewhat of a health nut who has been seeing ‘keto diet’ as buzz words everywhere. I thought at first that it would not interest me, but I am seeing here that I can direct my eating habits through my food choices, so I can have a healthier body. Looking at the suggestions I can see that it wouldn’t be hard for me because I like most of those things listed. Thank you for giving me another look at the keto life. I might soon be taking it up.

  10. I am a lover of keto diet so i was drawn to your post. I believe the keto diet also helps prevent other sicknesses apart from type 2 diabetes which you mentioned. It is really sad what is going on in the world with different sicknesses all around which could have been easily avoided with something as simple as this keto diet. Thanks for sharing this as so many readers can benefit from it

  11. I’ve done extensive research on Keto since I’ve been looking for new ways to lose weight. I’m tired of my current diet, and although I’ve had good results, I can’t stand it any longer.

Two cousins of mine are doing it, but one of them quit after a few days. It is my understanding that it’s too restrictive. It encourages consuming more fats and protein and fewer carbs. I can’t live without carbs lol.

I think, in the end, it’s all about balance. I don’t discard trying Keto in the future. I’ve already tried a lot of diets in the past with mixed results. I know it’s a lifestyle, but that doesn’t make it any easier.

    Thanks for sharing.

  12. Weight loss is a huge part of everyone’s plan but it’s not easy by just exercising. We also have to pay close attention to what we consume and that also can’t really go down well with most people because they sometimes fall sick from not eating well. However, knowing that keto diet is a great mean to help with weight loss makes it all easy because at this point you can eat well with the right percentage of nutrients and still lose weight. Great idea, I have a list of people who needs to see this.

  13. Keto diet is something that goes around here and there and I have heard of it a few times. Everything about Keto was explained very well, but I am not a biology person so I did not understand the biology part fo your article. The rest were very simple and quite easy to understand. Great Informative article for anyone looking to explore Keto diet, Excellent Job!!

  14. Thanks for supplying this great knowledge based information on the keto diet. I have been following a diet for a while on and off, but have not had very much success. The diet that I have been following is a diet that is based higher on carbs and I have not been seeing much results.

I am 50 years old and because of having a slower metabolism, I generally base this on my lack of results. From reading your knowledgeable information, I think that it is time for me to switch to using the keto diet and I think that with this new dietary switch I will start to see some very beneficial results, thanks.

  15. Wow! So much information about keto diet in here. Though I have always been an admirer of the diet plan but the thing is I have never given the thought to trying it out. Even though I am a little obese, but I have been living on supplements majorly to help with my weight loss. However, seeing this here makes sense and I also like the flexibility that accompanies this meal plan.

Thank you for sharing the knowledge!

  16. Hi. I have learned a lot from your site today. I never knew Keto diet was this so important. From your explanation, it helps reduce belly fats. Am so happy because I will recommend this to my father. He has been struggling with belly fat for so many years now. I will make sure he reads this article of yours. But I have question, can this help both men and women?

  17. Hi, I really enjoyed reading your article, I have a similar post on your websites, it’s not as detailed as yours. I’ve tried many diets, and I think after lockdown I’ll be re-training myself for Keto success. It is a very difficult diet which has been recommended by the royals and many celebrities but we forget that there are a lot of available help to support you along the way. Your health comes first.

  18. You have a very thorough knowledge of the Keto diet and how it works on the human body. I have been wanting to move into a Keto lifestyle, but all the information seems to say that you need to clean the fridge having only keto-friendly foods. This is often a bit expensive and requires everyone changing their diet. Is there a way to move slowly into this kind of eating?  What is most important to do first? I know there are some helpful hints to help in making the move.

We live in a small town and our selection of fresh food is often less than desired, and eating the same thing every day is a sure way to invite disaster when making the change.  As you have been living the Keto lifestyle for some time now, do you get bored with your choices? Or is there enough variety for a long term commitment?  I have tried to do this before, just did not ask questions, and my knowledge was a bit limited.  With the internet, there is a lot more information available.

  19. I am always researching healthier lifestyles and came across your site. I do not know much about the Keto diet and you provided me with much information. I will have to process everything I read. Great source for folks looking to change over to this lifestyle.

I have been practicing Intermittent Fasting for a while now and have incorporated some of the Mediterranean diet into my lifestyle. After reading your article I am going to dive deeper into the Keto Lifestyle and see how I can fit some of that in as well.

I am a firm believer that fats don’t make you fat as long as you are eating the proper fats. So thank you for sharing your information about this in the last video in your article.

  20. This was a really helpful overview of what is a keto diet. I have tried so many diets over the year but never one I could really commit to as a lifestyle change.

the keto diet sound quite appealing as the effect it has on your body reduces your appetite which is the opposite to most diets where you feel starving most of the time.

do you feel you have to give up most sweet treats and alcohol with the keto diet?

  21. This is a valuable article about keto diet. It has a lot of information that can be reviewed and answers most of the questions for anyone thinking to start the keto diet. A suggestion from us is that anyone thinking about starting this or any other diet It is important to consult with their provider as some people have other recommendations and this to other  diets can have contraindications with their current treatment. The video embedded in to the article also offers  great information with illustration that can help anyone to decide if this is the right diet for them.

  22. I have also been a victim of a number of scams in the past which makes it really sad for me. I must say that people like you are very nice considering the fact that you are willing to help others know what these scam platforms are and how they intend to loot away with our hard earned money. I think I have to share this for others to see as well.

  23. Who would imagine that a diet that is high in fat would help us lose weight and my belly fat. A friend had been explaining keto diet to me but I just couldn’t accept it. I told her, wait, I’ll have to research about this.

I’m glad I found your site and this comprehensive post on keto. I’ve bookmarked and I think I’ll even give keto a try. Thanks!

  24. Thanks for this thorough review of the Keto diet. I am not sure I would be able to hold on to it, as I lack the discipline when comes to eating lol. I mean, I eat when I want and what I like, although I don’t eat meat. Anyways, the belly fat is always there and I would love to be able to get rid of it, like probably 90% of women.

Avocado is not my favorite, I actually am allergic to it. But I see that many people recommend it. Do you know what is a replacement for this?

I might give a try to your recommendation. Thanks

  25. My husband is trying to lose weight. He also aims for losing his belly fat. So, he’s been trying to do water fasting but I don’t think that works well for him since he only drinks water during the water fasting, he will have a lack of energy to go through the day. That diet also affects his mood as well. Yes, he does the fasting during his off days from work but still, we are hoping that he won’t feel miserable during his fasting.

I am learning and reading more about ket diet now. Thankfully I found your site. You covered a lot of stuff that is somewhat new to me but I would like to read more. I understand the portion should be 75% fat, 25% protein, and 5% carbs. The thing is how do I know if I serve a good balance of food based on the keto diet? Do you have simple tips and tricks for me to understand?

  26. Would you believe, this is the first time I hear of the Keto diet? I have heard of it before, but never in detail the way you have just explained it. I wouldn’t have even known how to spell half the things you mentioned. Okay, so here are some questions. I am a vegetarian, can I still go to a keto diet? I drink almond milk and eat eggs. I also eat tons of vegetables, and fruits, mostly berries, and seeds and nuts. So, is this an acceptable solution to going keto? Or do is this only for meat-eaters? I enjoyed reading about your scientific explanation of how our body processes all these foods. It used to be that we tried to avoid fatty foods. I’m still avoiding transfats, that for sure, but now I can look forward to eating a little more seeds and beans perhaps. I will look into the tools you mentioned to test my BHB. This is super interesting information, Anthony. I believe I will give it a try. I’m always looking for ways to make my body healthier.

  27. Thank you so much for sharing with us an interesting and research article. The main subject of this article is about A Keto Diet. It is truly commendable that you have demonstrated this topic so well in your article. I have learned a lot by reading your article and gained a lot of cognition about it. Of the points mentioned in your article, I like Keto Diet For Weight Loss. My mom and I are on a diet to lose weight. Also, my mom has type 2 diabetes so keto diet is very important for her and she got effective results by doing it. While on this Keto diet I have always taken HB Keto supplements which have doubled my energy.
So I would say that those who are on the Keto diet or are thinking of doing it must take this kind of supplement that will help you get the real results of the Keto diet.

  28. Hello there! this is an amazing review you have got here, I’m sure the quality information in this post will be of great help to anyone who come across it as is to me. Sometime ago I saw one study that said, the ketogenic diet may be a safe and suitable complementary treatment to use alongside chemotherapy and radiation therapy in people with certain cancers.

  29. Hello there. Thanks a lot for sharing this awesome post. I know it would be of great help to the public as it has been of help to me. Keto diet is one of the most stable diet plan among others as it really gives the body the needed nutrients at that particular period.

  30. Hi,

Its an in depth article about keto diet, I read about the keto diet in some article but this is so far the best. I got so much information from your article, yes I also think in a way that eating fat makes you fat. This is the first time I read in the opposite way. I will try to include the keto diet in my life. Thanks for the article.

  31. Personally I have never used the keto diet, but I have known many who have and they have been extremely happy with the results, You need to be aware of the downside to the keto-diet, which can have serious consequences. Read this article carefully and you will have all the I formation you need.

  32. Hello Anthony – Thank you for explaining the keto diet so clearly. I have heard and read of it in passing but nothing as explicit as this. I don’t have a weight issue but I am interested in the increase in the energy aspect. However, I am concerned about the fat creating an issue with cholesterol levels.

  33. I’ve been reading and listening about Keto diet for a long time, but when I read your article I realized that I had not understood what it is, actually your article is the  most understandable review I’ve ever read about the topic, so thank you for this! And thank you for stressing the correct process of lipid metabolism: too many times people interpret fat the wrong way!

  34. Helllo kcancer, thanks for sharing such an amazing post with us all. I was actually doing some research online when I saw your post, my mom has been complaining about here weight for some time now, so I believe your site will really be of great help to her, I already saved these post so as to come back for future referencing

  35. You have explained this so well and in detail. I have heard a lot about keto but didn’t know much about it other than the fact that it’s a high fat diet. With what I have learned from your blog post, I think I’m ready to try out this diet without being biased. I’m glad I stumbled upon your article.

  36. Hi Kcancer,

I love Keto and I have gained immensely from it. Would u believe I lost 4 kgs just last month from keto?

I loved your article and learned a lot more than I already knew. Keto diet is one of the most popular diets around the world today. It is high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates (carbs) food, and this contributes to allowing people on this diet to eat fats. Thus it works out to be a simple diet plan. The diet causes cells in the human body to enter a state of metabolism referred to as ketosis. Basically it burns energy by burning fat.

  37. This is really a thorough article about Keto diet. It is based on proven science, detailed in a way that anyone can understand.  Probably many persons might think that Keto diet is about Ketoacidosis. So, your introduction about the citric acid cycle makes it clear the energy mechanism of how keto diet functions. You gave sound advices by telling your readers not to try to replace immediately to keto diet, I found that very wise. And by the way, a food weight scale, breath analyzer, urine strips and even Keto-Mojo, it makes me think, at least to me that you are talking dead serious. It is for get-real guys.

Kiss My Keto, looked simple, straight-forward, they got the grocery list, ingredients to purchase and even a process to go. It is very impressive. An the Beta hidroxibutirato (BHB) as an agent is a must for keto- diet goers.

So this articles, nails down all what you need to know about Keto diet. Certainly a great article to read, learn, and implement for any reader who needs to polish his/her physical appearance, but mostly the health conditions.

  38. Thank you explaining at length what the Keto diet is as I have always heard about it but have never known what it’s about. As a healthy eater, I can agree with you that having foods that are richer in protein keeps hunger at bay. Interesting thing about Keto is how it incorporates more fat than the other nutrients in the diet. I presume that these are obviously healthy fats included. If I were to try this diet would it have any negative effect on me as I have hypertension which calls for less fat in my diet?

  39. This is my first time hearing of the keto diet but from reading this article I am really intrigued by it. Sadly I’ll admit that all that explanation about ketosis, ketone and ketoacidosis flew by me but I was able to understand that the diet helps with your body targeting fat as your main source of energy and therefore helps you burn fat (correct me if I’m wrong) and that alone has me interested in the diet.

  40. Hello. I found your article very interesting. I don’t have any experience with the need for weight loss. Due to having high metabolism, I have managed to be slender my whole life. I am glad you warned people considering this diet to start out slow because too many people rush into dieting wanting fast results, which results in their health being affected negatively. Thank you for the great information.

  41. I always wonder what this diet is all about.

It is very interesting as you have explained it, and it has caught my attention that it generates satiety and that cravings are not so frequent. That is my main problem when starting any diet (and like everyone, I have tried a LOT). I’m always hungry and there are times when I can’t help it anymore. Where to eat an apple, or just a couple of almonds to “fill me up” is not enough.

I need the bread and butter, seriously!

That is why I am very interested in this which involves fat. My only question regarding fats is whether they should be of a particular type. Always “good” fats?

Is it necessary to complement it with some special type of physical activity?

I am going to know more about this diet, maybe I have found the solution!

    Regards
    Jason

  42. Hi. I have been thinking about starting the keto diet for awhile now but I have had no clear direction. I will be looking in to your other articles. My main questions are: What does BHB stand for? What does HBH stand for? Can you take the supplements without starting a diet?

  43. Thanks for educating me what is a keto diet. I always assume that keto diet is basically another atkins diet but boy was I wrong. Love your strategy. I think it is important for all of us to be successful at anything if we start with the why we are doing something and then set the goal.  Without knowing the why and have the planned goal in hand, when we face challenging time, we tend to give up. I think I will slowly cutting down carbs and start eating more healthy fat and make the keto diet into my new lifestyle! Thanks again for sharing the info and the tools for me to be successful.

  44. Hi, it is my first time to hear about Keto. I think it’s a good diet and helps many people. Thank you so much for sharing your experience on the Keto. I like your organised site.

  45. Hi,

Thanks very much for an insightful article! 👏🏾👏🏽👏🏿

You have really explained the subject in detail and in a manner that is surely enjoyable both to the general public and people with Science or Medical training.

Weight is indeed a big global health problem that is not going anywhere any soon. Millions of people with overweight or obesity problems struggle without success to control their body weight, using exercise and “traditional” weight loss diets. Maybe they should try the Keto diet.

It is a misconception that fat is bad. Or that fat in any form or fashion, causes weight gain. The “Bunting” diet is a centuries old diet that has been shown to help with weight and blood glucose control, despite it containing a lot of fat.

There have however been controversies and even “battles” because of the question of whether high fat diets can worsen blood lipid levels and ischemic heart disease.

    Regards.

  46. I have tried the keto diet and I got to the stage of ketosis, took tablets similar to these. Unfortunately it did not work for me. I didn’t lose any weight over a 2 month period. I’m not saying it doesn’t work for others but it didn’t for me. I exercised, followed the diet and took the tablets. How long was it before you saw results?

  47. I have been hearing so much about the Keto diet but never bothered to really check what it is about. This is a well written article breaking it down in easy to understand language. Now I know what Keto diet is and how you get to lose fat by eating fat. I am deciding to try out this diet. If it makes it easy to maintain a lean body I want it. Thank you so much for this article. Very informative.

  48. I did a Keto diet for a while. I bought all of the “strange” ingredients, bought a cookbook, got the strips to see if I was in ketosis.  The diet DOES work, but I found after a while I started to get cravings that I never really thought I would get.  The diet does work, which I thought would keep me going.  The cravings got the best of me.  Time to start again I think.  This pandemic thing and gym closures have taken a toll on my body!

  49. For stage 4 cancer purposes, I’m doing the Keto diet as well. The issue I have is finding recipes that are strictly focused on vegetarian diets. Do you have some good recipes which would have flavor as well keep the carbs low?

Many years ago before I was diagnosed, I was a personal trainer and did the Keto diet back then, it was all good groups. So it was easier to follow. But this vegetarian one is a little harder to follow.

  50. I know many people who have had good luck with the keto diet but I’ve never understood the process of how it works until now!  It’s interesting to know that fat is burned when the body doesn’t have the insulin it needs to convert to fuel.  One thing I assumed was that if my body was burning fat, I would be hungry all the time.  Now I learn that this diet actually stops cravings!  I think I’m going to give it a try.  Thank you for this great information!

  51. Hey, great job. In fact, many people need such sites to help educate me about the keto diet, the diet is high in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbohydrates, I love this writing because it opened me up about this diet, I learned a lot and always look for educational programs To help me diet. Thank you for your clear and transparent article with this guide so I can understand that the keto diet is a powerhouse in food provision.
